To diagnose basic network connectivity on IP networks, use the ping command in privileged EXEC
mode.
Command Syntax
ping [ip-address | ip ip-address | ipv6 ipv6-address | vrf name ip-address]
ip-address The target IP address.
ipv6-address The target IPv6 address.
vrf name For a specific VRF instance.

Usage
The ping command sends an echo request packet to an address, and then awaits a reply. Ping output
can help you evaluate path-to-host reliability, delays over the path, and whether the host can be reached
or is functioning.
Examples
The following example is sample dialog from the ping command using default values.
Switch# ping 192.168.0.1
