35 Configuring Storm Control
35.1 Overview
Storm control prevents traffic on a LAN from being disrupted by a broadcast, a multicast,
or a unicast storm on one of the physical interfaces. A LAN storm occurs when packets
flood the LAN, creating excessive traffic and degrading network performance.
Storm control uses one of these methods to measure traffic activity:
Bandwidth as a percentage of the total available bandwidth of the port (Level
mode).
Traffic rate in packets per second of the port (PPS mode).
35.2 Terminology
Following is a brief description of terms and concepts used to describe the Storm
Control:

Packets per second.

DUT#configure terminal Enter the Configure mode.
DUT(config)#interface eth-0-1 Enter the interface mode.
DUT(config-if)#storm-control unicast level 0.1 Set threshold to 0.1 percent of current port bandwidth.
DUT(config-if)#storm-control multicast level 1 Set threshold to 1 percent of current port bandwidth.
DUT(config-if)#storm-control broadcast level 10 Set threshold to 10 percent of current port bandwidth.
DUT(config)#end Exit to exec mode.
DUT#show storm-control eth-0-1 Display storm control information.
